Alma Magazine Ad - Papel Picado
This is Ariyana, fellow intern of Andrea and Vika at the HHF for the summer. Currently Vika and I have been working on creating ads for the foundation. Vika has been busy finishing her Cine Mexicano poster of Rita Moreno and Anthony Quinn. Meanwhile, I have been preoccupied with creating ads based on the theme of papel picado, which you can see below. Both concepts were very labor intensive to make, from the sketches to the final, especially since in keeping with the theme of the ad I wanted to do the work traditionally, which meant actually cutting my designs from paper. Believe me, after making many mistakes during this project my admiration for the art of papel picado, not only in the result but the process, has definitely grown. I’m really happy with the finals and have just given them to Bill to be formatted and refined for print. Also, I’m going to be REALLY excited to see the ad in Alma!

HHF Interns Update
In order to give you an insight into what goes on at the HHF headquarters in Washington DC, we interns have decided to share some of our experiences, projects and responsibilities here in the office. In the department of Marketing we are currently working on ad campaigns, social networking, HHF events, etc... We have created communication outlets in Facebook and Migente to reach out to people and keep everybody updated with the foundation’s latest news. HHF is also getting ready to launch this summer’s Newsletter so make sure you visit the foundation’s official website to sign up. There is always something to do at the office and the people working here are truly amazing. Two prospective illustrators are interning for the department and they are currently working on creating foundation ads for Alma magazine. These two talented artists are Ariyana Suvarnasuddhi and Vika Tsoy and they both attend the Maryland Institute College of Art. Here are some sketches of their work, the final copies will be posted later in the blog.
